An 80-year-old woman has bucked the national trend by trading in her draughty stone cottage for a brand-new eco home — and says she has no regrets about downsizing in later life.

Ann Simpson has swapped her cold, gas-heated cottage in Tetbury for a zero-carbon property just a quarter of a mile down the road at The Limes, a Newland Homes development on London Road.

Her bold move defies recent findings from Age UK, which reported that 59% of people over 75 believe they will never move again. The research, based on a survey of over 4,200 people, highlighted how two-thirds of homeowners over 65 live in homes with energy ratings between D and G — the lowest efficiency categories.
