A woman's body has been pulled from a river following reports of a kayaker in “difficulty”.
The body of a 20-year-old was recovered from the River Tees in Barnard Castle, County Durham, after multiple emergency services rushed to the scene. Firefighters, paramedics, police as well as the coastguard, and a search and mountain rescue team all attended the tragic incident.
Durham Constabulary said that they were alerted to a kayaker having problems in the river at around 2pm on Saturday and around two hours later the body of the 20-year-old was recovered. Specialist officers are now providing support for the woman's family.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We’re sorry to report that a body has been recovered from the River Tees in Barnard Castle this afternoon."
