Firefighters are currently battling a significant fire in Glasgow city centre, which has resulted in the evacuation of an H&M store. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received reports of the blaze at approximately 4.30pm this afternoon. Witnesses described hearing loud explosions as the fire broke out in a six-storey commercial building on West Nile Street.
In response to the emergency, seven fire appliances were dispatched to the scene. As the situation escalated, the number of fire engines increased to eight, along with a high reach appliance and a command support unit. The SFRS has advised the public to steer clear of the area as firefighters work to control the flames.
As of 7.43pm, West Nile Street has been closed between Bath Street and West George Street, while West Regent Street is shut between Renfield Street and West Nile Street. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries related to the incident.
Earlier in the day, the H&M store located on nearby Buchanan Street was evacuated as a precaution. Reports indicate that the fire may have originated from an electrical substation.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed the road closures, stating, “West Nile Street in Glasgow is closed from Renfield Street to Bath Street after a fire was reported at a premises in West Nile Street around 4.35pm on Saturday, 15 November, 2025. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
Emergency services remain on the scene as they continue to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
