A two-year-old boy died after reportedly being strangled by his jacket as he played at his nursery.

Leanardo Ricci had been outside in the yard at Ambarabà Ciccì Coccò nursery in Bibbiena, near Arezzo, central Italy, when the tragedy happened.

He had been running or trying to climb when the drawstring of his jacket apparently got caught on a tree branch and strangled him, according to Italian news site La Stampa. .

Moments later he was found not breathing by nursery staff and emergency services were called.

Medics tried to resuscitate the boy, but sadly he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police evacuated the nursery and cordons were put up. It will remain closed until at least next week while the incident, which happened earlier this week, is under investigati
