Coventry City Council has spoken out following the outcome of a High Court case over an ‘excessive’ number of asylum seekers in the city. Lawyers for the city council had claimed that the Home Office had failed to decrease the number of asylum seekers in Coventry and that this was ‘unlawful’.
But the High Court disagreed and on Friday, Mr Justice Eyre dismissed the claim .
Now, Coventry City Council has spoken out. In a statement a spokesman said the authority is ‘committed’ to supporting asylum seekers.
But it added that some towns and cities carry a ‘disproportionate burden’ which impacts local services.
The council is calling for a ‘fairer, more balanced system’. And it noted that there has been some progress, namely that there has been a reduction of more than 60 per cent in
