ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A motorcyclist was hospitalized with minor injuries after crashing during a police pursuit and becoming pinned under a deputy's vehicle late Saturday, while a second rider remained at large after abandoning their motorcycle on I-85.

The incident started around 10:36 p.m. when two motorcyclists refused to stop at a traffic checkpoint at Old Beatty Ford Road and China Grove Road, according to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office. The checkpoint was set up in response to complaints about traffic violations at the intersection.

Both riders turned onto China Grove Road and accelerated, prompting deputies to pursue them, deputies said.
