EDMONTON – Authorities in northern Alberta have issued a shelter-in-place order following a robbery involving firearms. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the incident occurred shortly after noon on Saturday near Red Earth Creek, where several guns were stolen by unknown suspects.
By 6 p.m., multiple sightings of the suspect vehicle were reported. RCMP officers later located the vehicle and three suspects north of Peerless Trout First Nation. According to police, the suspects were seen using a jerry can to refuel the truck before fleeing into the woods as officers approached. It is believed that they took three firearms with them.
The RCMP is urging residents in the Peerless Trout First Nation area to remain indoors, secure their homes, and refrain from answering the door. In a statement, police acknowledged the community's concerns, saying, "We understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured, your Alberta RCMP is working tirelessly to locate the suspects. We ask that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or tips to the police."
Additionally, police have requested that individuals avoid posting images of responding officers on social media. An Alberta Emergency Alert issued around the same time indicated that three armed suspects had been seen shooting at people near the First Nation. The alert described the suspects as men and labeled them as "very dangerous," noting that they were last spotted approximately three-and-a-half kilometers north of the community on Highway 686.
The situation remains ongoing as authorities continue their search for the suspects.
