WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The town of Williston is considering an expansion to their library and renovation of their town green this Town Meeting Day.
Librarians say they’ve run out of places to put new books and host meetings.
The selectboard has approved a $15 million bond to be put on the ballot. The proposal includes an 11,500 square foot addition to the library and a new performance platform, pathways, seating, and traffic safety improvements for the town green.
It will cost each homeowner with a median-size property worth around $300,000 an estimated extra $120 a year in property taxes.
“The goal for this expansion is for it to last 50 to 75 years. It is a pretty big price tag. There’s no denying that,” said Williston library director Kevin Unrath. “But the goal is to have an expan
