LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, Kan. — A Tonganoxie woman convicted of animal cruelty is in jail after 18 dogs were found in bad shape at her home — two months after a judge ordered her to surrender them.

A Leavenworth County judge ordered Amanda Fleer, 42, to serve 10 days in jail Friday for violating her probation by failing to surrender all animals from her property. She surrendered the 18 flea-infested dogs Thursday night, one day before her court appearance, including four puppies just four weeks old.

Fleer was originally convicted of animal cruelty after someone found her severely malnourished black poodle in the middle of Tonganoxie Drive near 199th Street on Oct. 17, 2024. She received probation with the requirement not to own or care for any animals during the term of her probation.
