The search for a missing crew member of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Tidesurge off the north-west coast of Ireland has officially ended, with no trace of the individual found. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the news, stating that the crew member was last seen at approximately 10.30pm on Friday. A comprehensive multi-agency search operation was conducted in the waters between Tory Island, County Donegal, and Eagle Island, County Mayo. Despite extensive efforts, the search yielded no results. The family of the missing crew member has requested privacy during this difficult time. Defence Secretary John Healey expressed his condolences, stating, "After an extensive search, it is with deep sadness that we confirm the missing crew member of RFA Tidesurge has not been found. My thoughts are with their family during this tragic time, as well as their fellow crew members. I am hugely grateful to the Irish authorities, the RNLI, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy who have responded rapidly to this incident and have worked tirelessly on the search." The Irish Coast Guard received a distress call from the UK naval support vessel before 9am on Saturday, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation. A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence stated, "After an extensive search for a missing crew member of a Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ship’s company, the individual has not been found, and the search has now ended. The individual’s family have been informed, and an investigation is now under way into the incident. No other individuals have been harmed or reported missing." The search involved multiple agencies, including the Irish Coast Guard, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, RNLI, and local authorities. The operation was coordinated by the Irish Coast Guard maritime rescue sub-centre at Malin. Air searches were conducted using the Coast Guard’s fixed-wing plane Rescue 120F, based in Shannon, and the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118, based in Sligo. Additionally, the Irish Air Corps plane, CASA 284, participated in the operation. At sea, the search was coordinated by the UK naval support vessel alongside three RNLI all-weather lifeboats stationed at Ballyglass, Arranmore Island, and Lough Swilly. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the crew member's disappearance.
