India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill has been released from the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata, having been admitted a day before with a neck injury. His absence made a massive difference in India’s performance against South Africa on Sunday, as his team succumbed to a 30-run loss.

Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly visited Gill at Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital on Sunday, November 16, hours after India’s 30-run loss on a challenging Eden Gardens pitch handed South Africa a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Gill, who picked up the injury while batting on Day 2, was ruled out of the first Test ahead of Day 3. He was unavailable for India’s second innings, where the side was bowled out for just 93.
