Rescue operations continued for over 24 hours on Sunday after a major stone quarry collapse in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh left at least one worker dead and several others feared trapped under large boulders. Teams from the NDRF, SDRF, local police and district administration remain at the site, working through unstable terrain to remove debris and trace the missing labourers.

Officials said around 15 workers are suspected to be trapped beneath a massive slab of rock that slid off during mining activity. One body was recovered early on Sunday.

The collapsed rock formation is estimated to be nearly 6 metres long and 4 metres wide, according to technical staff assisting the operation. Breaking it safely has slowed the rescue, as heavy machinery can only be used in stages to prevent
