The Opposition Samajwadi Party and Congress on Sunday hit out at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the stone quarry collapse in Sonbhadra district, accusing the ruling party and police of colluding with the “mining mafia”.

“It is not an accident, but a result of the partnership between the mining mafia and government machinery,” state Congress president Ajay Rai said as he called the ongoing rescue efforts “inadequate”.
