The 36 conservation authorities across Ontario are being amalgamated into seven — including a proposal to consolidate five authorities in the Ottawa area into one new body called the St. Lawrence Regional Conservation Authority.
The new St. Lawrence authority would encompass watersheds flowing into the St. Lawrence River, including the Raisin and South Nation areas. It will be primarily based on the Upper St. Lawrence, Lower Ottawa River, and southern portion of the Central Ottawa River secondary watersheds and will include the cities of Ottawa, Brockville, Kingston and Cornwall.
