South Africa pulled off a gritty 30-run victory against India in the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, completing a remarkable turnaround after being dismissed for 159 on the opening day. The visitors, who began the third morning at 93 for 7 in their second innings, stretched their lead to 123 through captain Temba Bavuma’s unbeaten 55 and a determined lower-order effort.

India were bowled out for 93 in 35 overs while chasing 124. Off-spinner Simon Harmer led South Africa’s attack with 4 for 21. Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj shared the remaining wickets on a pitch where any target over 100 appeared difficult.
