On the day Pittsburgh International Airport is scheduled to open its new $1.7 billion terminal, more than 1,400 pilots plan to picket at 22 airports across the country, including here.
Allegiant Air pilots, represented by Teamsters Local 2118, said the strike on Tuesday is in response to what they say is management’s refusal to offer a fair contract and “ongoing negotiation delays.”
“By failing to offer a fair contract, Allegiant is losing talented and experienced pilots to competitor airlines and jeopardizing local routes,” the union said Sunday afternoon in a prepared statement. “Teamsters pilots are simply asking to be respected and fairly compensated for the work they do every day and are picketing to remind the company that without pilots, their planes don’t fly.”
