SAN DIEGO — Perhaps lost in the Boise State football team’s 17-7 loss to San Diego State on Saturday was that the Broncos held Aztec quarterback Jayden Denegal to 17 passing yards, the fewest passing yards the Broncos have allowed in their FBS era and the fewest since 1979.

The run defense was another issue.

San Diego State put up 277 rushing yards on the Broncos, the most Boise State (6-4, 4-2 Mountain West) has given up this season, as the Aztecs were able to out-physical the Broncos in a game in which rain slowed down both passing attacks.

“As a defense, that’s something we need to work on,” said Boise State linebacker Boen Phelps. “A lot of that comes with making adjustments in the game, knowing where they’re attacking us and being able to counter.”
