A Somerset County police officer and his family were displaced this weekend after a fire tore through their home, leaving them with nothing, according to colleagues.
Firefighters and police responded Saturday morning to a reported structure fire on Eastbrook Road in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater Township.
The home belonged to Somerville Police Officer Vito Spadea, his wife Kim, and their two daughters, ages 8 and 10.
The family lost all their belongings in the fire, but everyone is safe, authorities reported.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
An outpouring of community support quickly followed the incident.
By Sunday afternoon, an online fundraiser for the family had raised more than $80,000.
