Simaru Fields made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:26 remaining at Kaplan Arena, giving Old Dominion (3-1) a 56-53 victory Sunday at William & Mary (1-3).
Cassidy Geddes’ jumper with 2:30 on the clock put the Tribe ahead 53-51, but Simone Cunningham sank two free throws to tie the score. After Fields’ shot, Geddes missed just before the clock expired.
“We had to grind this game out,” Monarchs coach DeLisha Milton-Jones said on odusports.com. “We’re still trying to gel and figure some things out as a new team, while we present ourselves differently every single game. But for us to still be able to come out with wins and scrap our way through it, that really shows me a lot about how good we really can be.”
ODU led for most of the first three quarters, but W&M led 43-39 entering the fourth.
