He has expanded his role even more tonight against Akron, giving Braden Smith a breather and showing off the creativity and shooting chops that him the heir apparent to the greatest point guard in Boilers history.

At half, Mayer has nine points on 3 for 4 shooting, two rebounds and an assist in 11 minutes and No. 2 Purdue leads 52-39 at Mackey Arena against a game Zips team that is dynamic on offense and athletic across the board.
