The Seattle Mariners and Josh Naylor are finalizing a five-year deal to keep the first baseman in the Pacific Northwest, according to multiple reports.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan first reported the deal. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported the deal is pending a physical.
After arriving from Arizona in a July 24 trade, Naylor provided the Mariners with a needed upgrade at first base and played an instrumental role in the club’s run to its first American League West title and first AL Championship Series appearance in 24 years.
The 28-year-old Naylor immediately became a key cog in the middle of Seattle’s order as a high-contact bat while providing protection behind stars Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez. In 54 games with the M’s, he slashed .299/.341/.490 with an .831 OPS, 10 doubles, nine home
