LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - In an 8-2 vote, Lexington’s Planning Commission approved a change to rezone the Aylesford neighborhood to make room for an eight story residential complex.
Commission staff recommended the approval, arguing the move follows Lexington’s Comprehensive Plan and would offer more housing for UK students.
During a September meeting, a representative for the development company Core Spaces said they held meetings with the Aylesford community and made changes to the plan based on their feedback.
However, some in the neighborhood are against the development, as it would destroy 12 homes.
“One thing we have been asserting this whole time is that this block is unique,” Dr. Zak Leonard, Historic Preservation Manager at the Blue Grass Trust said.
