New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is unlikely to carry out a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Assam ahead of the 2026 assembly elections due to complications arising from the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Instead, the poll body is expected to opt for a Special Summary Revision (SSR) with strengthened verification procedures, according to a report by The Economic Times (ET).

The ECI has held multiple internal rounds of assessment on the feasibility of an SIR in the state and explored alternative approaches, ET reported.
