The National Capital Authority received information about proposed plans to demolish and redevelop Big Splash in early November.

The future of the aquatic park is uncertain, with The Canberra Times reporting that owners Translink Management Group want to replace it with a hotel.

City and Environment Directorate Deputy Director-General Sam Engele has said the directorate met with planning advisors regarding the site but not seen a redevelopment proposal.

"We had an initial discussion with the planning advisors representing Big Splash about what potentially could occur on the site but without any specific details, so it was an early, pre-op meeting to understand what the current status was. We haven't seen any proposal," he told a committee hearing last Wednesday.
