Opposition Leader Brad Battin will face a leadership challenge as early as Tuesday as state Liberal MPs launch a second end-of-year spill in as many years to reboot their party’s bleak electoral fortunes.
Sources from across the party’s factional divide confirmed shadow treasurer Jess Wilson, one of the youngest and newest Liberals in parliament, had sufficient support to take the leadership and that plans were underway to move a spill motion.
A cross-factional delegation of MPs met with Battin on Monday afternoon to inform him that he had lost the support of the party room.
Other MPs were planning to inform Battin on Monday night that they were withdrawing their support from his leadership and would back Wilson in a challenge.
