Shoalhaven Council's ward one area will have a new representative on Tuesday, December 9.

Former ward one representative Jason Cox resigned from council on Thursday, November 6, leaving the council's northernmost ward one councillor short.

The NSW Electoral Commission has announced it will hold a countback election on December 9.

However before then it needs to hear from all unsuccessful candidates in the 2024 council election to say if they are still interested in contesting the position.

Candidate applications open on Monday, November 24, and close on Thursday, December 4.

Once the list of candidates is compiled. it will take only a few seconds for a computer check of the votes cast during the election, with Mr Cox excluded as a candidate, to determine the winner.
