City police spent Sunday chasing a wave of bomb alerts that eventually proved baseless, after a flurry of emails and calls targeted Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin, actor Ajith Kumar, and a long list of well-known personalities and institutions, according to reports.

Officers confirmed that every location inspected by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was clear and that the warnings were hoaxes similar to earlier anonymous threats routed through hidden servers.

The chain of events began on November 16 when an email -- sent from [kamakshi_selvaganesh@mail2tor.email (mailto:kamakshi_selvaganesh@mail2tor.email) -- landed in the official inbox of the Director General of Police.
