Aranya Sahay’s feature film 'Humans in the Loop' has received the Film Independent Sloan Distribution Grant, securing support for its US release and officially entering the race for the 98th Academy Awards.

The grant, presented by Film Independent in partnership with the Alfred P Sloan Foundation, supports narrative films that explore science and technology themes. Past Sloan-supported projects include 'The Imitation Game', 'Hidden Figures', 'The Man Who Knew Infinity' and 'Oppenheimer'. With the award, Sahay and producer Mathivanan Rajendran become Film Independent Fellows.

'Humans in the Loop' follows an Indigenous woman employed at a rural data-annotation centre in India and examines labour, ethics and inequities in the development of machine learning systems.
