A devastating bus accident near Medina on Monday claimed the lives of 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims, leaving only one known survivor.

The lone survivor, 24-year-old Mohd Abdul Shoiab from Hyderabad, was reportedly seated near the driver when the bus travelling from Mecca to Medina collided with a diesel tanker.

He has been hospitalised, though his condition remains uncertain, reports NDTV.

The bus is believed to have been carrying around 46 passengers when it crashed into the oil tanker at approximately 1:30 am (IST). Following the incident, the Indian mission in Jeddah set up a control room to coordinate support and assistance.
