Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials have reaffirmed their commitment to preventing future Palestinian statehood. This declaration comes ahead of a scheduled United Nations Security Council vote on a U.S. proposal regarding post-war Gaza. Netanyahu emphasized during a recent Knesset session that the ongoing conflict "has not ended," highlighting the tense situation in the region.
As the ceasefire in Gaza remains largely intact, Israeli authorities are managing the sensitive issue of hostages. Currently, three deceased hostages are still in Gaza, while Israel has been returning the bodies of Palestinians in exchange for the remains of hostages.
In southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported the killing of a Hezbollah local representative, Muhammad Ali Shuaikh. The IDF released a video claiming Shuaikh was involved in military and economic connections between Hezbollah and the local community in the village of Al-Mansouri. Despite a ceasefire agreement established a year ago, which called for both Hezbollah and Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah members and infrastructure continue. The IDF stated it has struck five "terrorist targets" and killed three Hezbollah operatives in the past week.
On Sunday, the IDF confirmed an incident involving fire directed at United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops. According to Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, the IDF fired "warning shots" at what they believed were two suspects in the El Hamames area. Upon review, it was determined that the individuals were UN soldiers conducting a patrol. UNIFIL reported that heavy machine gun fire came dangerously close to their personnel, prompting them to seek shelter. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the peacekeepers were able to leave the area safely after the IDF withdrew.
UNIFIL has called on the IDF to cease aggressive actions against peacekeepers, emphasizing the need for stability in the region. As the situation develops, Netanyahu's government remains steadfast in its opposition to Palestinian statehood, as they prepare to confront the U.S.-backed resolution at the UN Security Council.
