Zoho Corporation co-founder and chief scientist Sridhar Vembu on Monday warned that expensive real estate and rising living costs could undermine the demographic future of societies. In a post on X, Vembu said high housing costs, expensive education and costly healthcare systems are collectively pushing younger generations into long-term debt traps, a trend he believes poses serious risks for demographic future.
“Expensive real estate destroys demographics. Any society that traps its young people in debt, because of expensive education or expensive housing or expensive health care (or all of the above in many cases) is a society that is destroying its own demographic future. If you love children, enable lower cost of living for prospective parents," Vembu wrote.
