The Family Medical Center of Michigan is expanding its efforts to help families facing food insecurity across Monroe and Lenawee counties.
It is estimated that between both counties, nearly 26,000 residents participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, according to a community announcement.
A Federally Qualified Health Center, the Family Medical Center's mission goes beyond providing affordable medical and dental care. It also addresses the root causes of poor health, including hunger. Through local partnerships and community outreach, the center continues to serve as a vital safety net for residents affected by the uncertainty of federal food assistance during the government shutdown that ended Nov. 12.
