Scott Boland says Australia fielding two Indigenous cricketers for the first time in a Test match would be a massive boost for the sport in attracting more First Nations participants at junior level.

Perth is set to be the stage for a near 150-year cricket first on Friday as Australia take on bitter enemies England in the opening Ashes Test.

The Australians are mulling selecting South Australia quick Brendan Doggett for a debut after Josh Hazlewood was ruled out with a hamstring strain, and with skipper Pat Cummins missing due to a back complaint.

And if they do, he will play alongside fellow Indigenous man and fast bowling star Scott Boland, meaning the pair would become the first Aboriginals to play together in the Australian Test team.
