Police in Nsanje are searching for several villagers from Chatantha Village, Traditional Authority Tengani, who allegedly assaulted and set ablaze a farmer after he shot a pig belonging to another villager.

Nsanje Police deputy spokesperson Jabulani Ng’oma, confirmed the development and said the incident occurred on Saturday night.

According to Ng’oma, the conflict began when a stray pig entered the kraal of well-known livestock farmer Joseph Gomesi. Fearing that the animal might transmit diseases to his livestock, Gomesi reportedly fired a gun and shot the pig.

The action angered the pig’s owner, who mobilized fellow villagers. In retaliation, the group allegedly beat Gomesi and later set him on fire.
