Manchester United are said to have agreed to launching a team that will compete in basketball.

President of the Italian Basketball Federation Gianni Petrucci has claimed that United have ‘said yes’ to participation in NBA Europe.

The plans will see major European cities, including Manchester, to be the host of 10 or 12 founding franchises. It aims to cash in on the growth of basketball outside of America and in Europe.

In an interview with Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport , Petrucci said: “It’s a new league that will be good for the system, bringing resources and entertainment. The agreement also notes that registered clubs must participate in their respective domestic leagues.”
