New York Jets defensive back Kris Boyd was shot over the weekend in New York and is in critical but stable condition, according to CBS News .
The outlet reports that Boyd was shot in the abdomen at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
According to PIX11 in New York , citing sources, the shooting occurred after someone tried to steal Boyd’s chain as he left a club.
The suspect and Boyd reportedly started fighting after the attempted theft, before Boyd was shot.
Police were searching for a suspect who fled the scene and was last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers and carrying a black bookbag, per PIX11.
Kris Boyd is in his first season with the New York Jets after previously playing for the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings.
