The Supreme Court on Monday heard the defection case of 10 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs. The Court issued a contempt notice to Telangana Assembly Speaker GP Kumar for not yet deciding on the petitions seeking disqualification of the MLAs.

The bench headed by CJI BR Gavai stated that on July 31, the Telangana Speaker was ordered to decide on the disqualification of these 10 MLAs within three months. A petition was filed on November 10 due to non-compliance with this order. The CJI said-

This is gross contempt. The Speaker has currently been exempted from appearing in court personally, but he must now decide where to celebrate the New Year. If the order to make a quick decision is not followed, he will have to come to court.
