For most kids, Halloween candy is a trophy of hard work and a trove of treats to enjoy for weeks following the holiday. For kids at Ebeling Elementary School in Macomb, Halloween candy is a way to give back to active military members.
In the weeks following Halloween, students had a goal to gather 100 pounds of Halloween candy to give away.
Specifically, the students thought this would be a great way to honor their physical education teacher, Elijah Fante, who is active duty in the Air National Guard, by supporting the military.
“It’s encouraging to know that we are working towards this goal to give back to our military members,” said Molly Cipa, a sixth grade student council member.
