An investigation is underway after a 32-year-old inmate was found dead inside the Hudson County Correctional Facility over the weekend, authorities said.
John Finucane of Jersey City, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 7:40 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 15, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said.
Officers and medical staff “immediately rendered aid to the inmate,” he said. Finucane was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 a.m., authorities said.
Records show Finucane had been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and contempt (violation of a domestic violence order) on Oct. 5.
Mello said the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General “was immediately notified,” as required under state guidelines. The prosecutor said the case “remains under investigation.”
