India on Monday said it has noted the verdict of the “International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh”, awarding the death penalty to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, holding her responsible for ‘crimes against humanity’ in connection with the July–August 2024 violence in the country.
”As a close neighbour, India remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including in peace, democracy, inclusion, and stability in that country. We will always engage constructively with all stakeholders to that end,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.

However, there was no response to reports from Dhaka that India has formally approached India, requesting the extradition of Sheikh Hasina following the issuance of the death sentence against her.
