A 48-year-old man was killed Nov. 16 when he crashed his car on I-277 and then wandered onto the highway before being fatally struck, Akron police Lt. Michael Murphy said in a release.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., Akron officers responded to a car accident with injuries on I-277 West just after Manchester Road.
Witnesses reported that the driver of a gray Tesla had been traveling at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of traffic before crashing into a barrier, Murphy said.
After the crash, witnesses said the driver exited the car and began walking into oncoming traffic on the highway, causing at least one vehicle to swerve to avoid hitting him before before he was ultimately struck by another vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, Murphy said.
