Tom Cruise 's next mission? Defining his love of cinema.

After the Mission: Impossible star was a warded an honorary Oscar at t he Governors Awards in Los Angeles Nov. 16, he shared just ho w deeply hi s dedication to his craft runs.

“My love for cinema began at a very early age, as early as I can remember,” Tom said at the ceremony, per People . “I was just a little kid in a darkened theater, and I remember that beam of light just cut across the room, and I remember looking up, and it seemed to be just exploded on the screen. Suddenly, the world was so much larger than the one that I knew."

The 63-year-old noted these first memories at movie theaters ignited his passion for the career he has built today, having appeared in over 50 films.
