Snowmen line the wall, reindeer figures light up the steps and the façade is covered with glowing presents, bells and cartoon Santas.
In Soham, England, John and Helen Attlesey’s home has become a familiar landmark during the festive season.
“So they call us the Christmas House now… the light house or the Christmas House,” the couple say.
They start assembling the display in early September, gradually adding figures and lights until the switch-on in November.
“We start at the beginning of September, and people go by and say it is lovely, it is coming on… we keep trying to improve on them really,” Helen and John say, as they check wiring and decorations outside their home.
The display is not just for show.
The couple raise money for charities that supported their grandson, who has epilepsy and was treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital.
“So we do it all for the charity that helped him,” Helen says. “Great Ormond Street gave him his life back as far as we are concerned.”
Visitors gather to admire the decorations, some travelling to Soham specifically to see them.
“I mean we came on this walk just to see them tonight… whenever it gets to this time of year you see them putting up the lights in September, it is so much hard work,” says one passer-by.
Another visitor adds: “No definitely not too early. I come every year because I live in Soham and the display is slightly different every year and it is just so beautiful to see.”
But what's their electricity bill? The couple laugh.
John jokes that Helen keeps track of the electricity bill, while he prefers not to look.
Helen laughs it off, saying only: “It is what it is.”
As the figures glow against the night sky, the Attleseys’ display continues a thirteen-year tradition of festive fundraising.
Father Christmas will have no trouble finding this house.
