Last week, Katie Wilson managed to eke out a narrow win for the biggest job in the city against a massive onslaught of money from big business for her opponent Mayor Bruce Harrell — but now comes the hard part.

As columnist Danny Westneat observed last week, Seattle has proved again to be a fickle city. With a wave of successful progressive candidates poised to take citywide office, this month’s election could be seen as a repudiation of more moderate positions and policies.

But as we have seen time and time again, we could just as easily see the tide turn back the other direction in a few years if the new progressive mayor, city attorney and council members are not able to work with their more moderate colleagues to pass policies that make people’s lives better.
