The man who attempted to grab actor-singer Ariana Grande on the red carpet at the 'Wicked: For Good' Singapore premiere has been sentenced to nine days in prison. The incident, which unfolded during the Asian premiere last week, drew widespread attention after videos of the chaotic moment circulated online.
The accused, 26-year-old Australian national Johnson Wen, rushed toward Grande by jumping a barricade as she walked the red carpet. Security intervened immediately, with co-star Cynthia Erivo also stepping in to shield the singer. According to prosecutors, Wen attempted to approach Grande a second time even after being removed by security – prompting his arrest.
Wen pleaded guilty to being a public nuisance and admitted in court that he deliberately tried to get close to the singer.
