Shillong, Nov 17: Three men were convicted last week in a narcotics case that goes back to January 2024.
On January 19, 2024, an FIR was filed regarding the detention of three men who were stopped at a police checkpoint on that day on the road from Ranikor.
During a thorough search of the trio, nine packets containing 1,728 yaba tablets (methamphetamine mixed with caffeine) were recovered. A case was registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and they were charge sheeted on May 3, 2024.
On November 11 this year the court of the Special Judge of South West Khasi Hills in Mawkyrwat convicted the three – Somison Sangma, Gopal Borman and Jenel D Sangma – and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment of 10 years with a Rs 1 lakh fine each.
