CARMEL, Calif. —
A diver from Stockton has recovered the body of a 7-year-old girl who was swept away by a 15- to 20-foot wave at Garrapata State Beach in Monterey County on Friday.
The girl's father had died while trying to save her and her mother was hospitalized with hypothermia after attempting to help. The father was identified as Yuji Hu, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, KSBW reported. Another 2-year-old child was unharmed.
Crews spent all weekend searching for the girl, and her body was recovered Sunday by expert diver Juan Heredia .
Heredia runs a nonprofit called Angels Recovery Dive Team and has recovered bodies in nearly 20 drowning incidents over the past two years, including finding a 2-year-old in Oregon and three hikers who fell into Rattlesnake Falls earlier this year.
