A council says it has no intention of introducing smaller black bag waste bins after the potential of such a change was explored in a scrutiny report . A ‘task and finish’ group consisting of a dozen Redcar and Cleveland councillors of various political persuasions quoted modelling outcomes provided by the organisation WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme).

The analysis described how replacing current 240 litre residual waste bins with 180 litre versions, while also introducing ‘two stream’ dry recycling fortnightly - as opposed to the current method of recycling all going in the same bin - could boost recycling rates from 24.3% to 32.9%.
