The Red Sox have some roster maintenance due Friday.
Boston not only needs to add eligible prospects to their active roster to protect them from the 2025 Rule 5 Draft on Tuesday, but also needs to make decisions on whether it intends to non-tender arbitration-eligible players by Friday.
Tanner Houck, who is one of those players, isn’t expected to be going anywhere , according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Houck, 29, is expected to miss most if not all of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August, which had many wondering if he’d be cut loose given the fact that he’ll become an unrestricted free agent ahead of 2028 — with his injury recovery and labor tensions making it possible that he won’t pitch again before hitting the open market.
