The chairman of the BBC has reassured his staff that Donald Trump has "no basis for a defamation case" against the broadcaster over its editing of one of his speeches for a Panorama programme.
Samir Shah told his employees in a memo seen by the PA news agency: "We are determined to fight this."
The US president has said he still intends to sue the corporation despite them issuing an apology over the act of deception last week.
The BBC admitted their edit of Mr Trump’s speech - made just hours before the U.S. Capitol attack on January 6, 2021 - had given the "mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action".
The broadcaster said the splicing of the speech was an "error of judgment", but refused to pay financial compensation.
